Types of Inca Trail Tour Providers

When booking an Inca Trail tour, you’ll encounter two main types of providers: registered tour operators and middlemen. Registered tour operators, such as Machu Picchu T, manage and conduct their own Inca Trail tours, ensuring a direct and reliable experience.

Be cautious of middlemen who act as intermediaries between you and the actual tour operators. These middlemen often have less control over the quality and details of your tour.

Deposit and Cancellation Policies

All reputable operators, including Machu Picchu T, require a deposit that is generally non-refundable. This policy is due to the fact that the Ministry of Culture (Ministerio de Cultura) does not offer refunds for cancellations or changes. If a cancellation occurs, the operator must reapply for a new permit, incurring additional costs.

Waiting Lists and Availability

There is no official waiting list or cancellation list for the Inca Trail. If a travel agent claims to offer such a list, they are likely providing false information. Once a spot is canceled, it cannot be reassigned to another traveler.

Force Majeure

Force majeure refers to unforeseen events beyond Machu PicchuT's control, such as war, civil unrest, strikes, terrorism, natural disasters, and severe weather conditions. In such cases, Machu PicchuT is not liable and reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel your trip if necessary. We always strive to avoid cancellation, but it remains a last resort.

Price Adjustments

In the event of protests or strikes, which are occasionally experienced in Cusco, it may be necessary to adjust your schedule, potentially resulting in additional costs. Any price increase will be applied to cover these unforeseen expenses.

Risks and Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover accidents, medical expenses, emergency repatriation, and trip cancellations, including flight changes and luggage loss. Please email us a copy of your insurance details or provide them upon arrival in Cusco.

Booking any of our adventure activities (e.g., Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Salkantay, Ausangate, Choquequirao, Lares, Vilcabamba, Cachicata Trek) entails accepting the associated risks. Machu PicchuT is not responsible for these inherent risks.

Inca Trail Campsites

Please be aware that campsite locations may vary based on booking time, availability, weather conditions, or safety regulations imposed by the Peruvian government.

Reservation and Deposit

To secure your Inca Trail tour, a non-refundable deposit of USD 350 per person is required. This deposit covers the cost of Inca Trail tickets, Machu Picchu tickets, Wayna Picchu/Machu Picchu Mountain tickets (if applicable), porter expenses, and other related costs. The deposit is non-transferable to another person, date, or tour.

Book your Inca Trail tour with Machu PicchuT as soon as possible to ensure availability for your desired date!
