Patacancha Community
The communities of Sondor Rumira, Willoq, and Patacancha are nestled within the highlands of the Sacred Valley, located an hour's journey from Ollantaytambo and two and a half hours from Cusco. These communities are deeply rooted in their ancestral customs and traditions.
Some porters come from these communities to work on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu; Willoq, Patacancha, and Sondor Rumira are among the communities dedicated to this work. When these porters are not scheduled to leave for the Inca Trail with the tour operator, they return to farming.

Machu Picchu T - Responsible Travel
Machu Picchu T and Responsible People are deeply committed to supporting these communities. Throughout the year, we have explored innovative ways to improve the livelihoods of the families living here.
Rustic Housing Initiatives
Our primary endeavor has been the construction of purpose-built living spaces that allow families to showcase their culture and heritage to the world. This not only provides them with additional income but also enriches their quality of life.
With the invaluable assistance of countless travelers who have journeyed with us, we have diligently trained each family in the nuances of customer service.

Fito Toldos
Fito Toldos, or 'fitotoldos,' play a pivotal role in their sustenance, facilitating the cultivation and sale of produce. This fosters the development of new agricultural practices, benefitting their entire community.

Machu PicchuT and Responsible People extend a warm invitation for you to explore these communities through tailored itineraries. Your visit not only supports their journey towards sustainable growth but also offers invaluable insights into their vibrant culture and traditions.
Volunteer
Each year, Machu Picchu T hosts a Christmas party in Patacancha, a high Andean village. The village is located 2 hours faraway from Cusco City or around a 40-minute ride from the Inca town of Ollantaytambo following the road leading to Willoq.
We are committed to sharing the spirit of Christmas by organizing fun activities and giving Patacancha children presents, meals, and hot chocolate. We continually seek new ways to actively support sustainable tourism and local people.
