Edwin Caviedes is the founder and managing director of Machu PicchuT Travel, a social-enterprise tour operator built on the principle of giving back to Peru’s indigenous communities. Having traveled extensively across South America, Edwin remains hands-on in every branch of the business to ensure each traveler experiences the absolute best of his homeland.
His deep connection to tourism began in childhood. Growing up in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), Edwin’s family spent years working in local hospitality. As a young boy, he traveled with his mother to remote Andean villages to barter jungle goods for high-altitude crops like native potatoes—a centuries-old tradition known as Trueque. Raised in a bilingual Quechua and Spanish-speaking household, Edwin later taught himself English to help his family communicate with international visitors and grow their small local business.
Driven by this early passion, Edwin pursued formal tourism studies and entered the industry professionally at age 18. Over the next two decades, he mastered every facet of travel operations—from logistics and bookings to hospitality and customer service. He also spent years on the ground as a professional lead guide, guiding trekkers through Peru's rugged terrains.
After honing his operational expertise at United Mice and GAP Adventures, Edwin channelled his vision into founding Tierras Vivas and, subsequently, Machu PicchuT—agencies explicitly built around responsible, meaningful travel.
Having personally managed and guided Peru’s most iconic routes—including the Inca Trail, Salkantay, Vilcabamba, and Choquequirao — Edwin possesses an unparalleled understanding of the Andean landscape and what modern travelers truly need. What began as a humble family effort has grown into an award-winning tour operator celebrated for its excellence and ethical standards.
