Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days: Book Your 2026 - 2027 Slot
Description
The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu isn't the most famous route in Peru, but for many hikers, it's the most memorable. Over four days, you'll walk through high Andean communities where weaving is still a living tradition, not a tourist demonstration — women in doorways with spindles, children herding alpacas across stone paths their ancestors built centuries ago.
The trail takes you past glacial lakes that sit so still they mirror the peaks above them, and through villages where the guesthouses are family homes. You'll soak in natural hot springs the night before the final push, which helps more than you'd expect at that altitude.
The trek ends with a train ride into Aguas Calientes and then up to Machu Picchu itself — a genuinely different way to arrive at a place you've probably seen in photographs a hundred times. Seeing it after days on foot changes something.
We run guaranteed departures on the Lares Trek with fixed group sizes, and we hold some of the most competitive prices available online for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Permits sell out early — if you're planning for next year, it's worth booking now.

Itinerary Details
Day 01: Cusco - Lares - Huacawasi
We will pick you up from your hotel between 4 am and 4.30 am to take you on a scenic ride through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, stopping for breakfast in the town of Calca. There, you will have the opportunity to purchase any last-minute snacks, water, etc. At 8 am, we will leave Calca and continue our journey for around three hours, during which time we will observe small Andean villages, spectacular mountain landscapes and herds of llamas and alpacas. Finally, we arrive in the small town of Lares (3,100 m), famous for the medicinal powers of its thermal baths. You will have the opportunity to bathe (don't forget your swimsuits!) before setting out on our hike!
Once we have had time to freshen up, we will take a leisurely walk up to the Trapiche River Valley. After approximately two and a half hours, we arrive in the village of Vilcabamba. There, we have lunch and take a short rest before continuing to hike up the valley for another hour and a half. When we reach the small village of Huacawasi (3,700 m), we set up camp and have dinner before spending the night there.
