Cusco has got numerous colonial churches too. The most important of them is the Cathedral on the main square. Its construction started in 1559 and it took 100 years to finish. The Cathedral can pride on the biggest depository of Colonial art of the city. A vault containing remains of the famous Incan historian - Garcilaso de la Vega is just past the entrance. Other churches that are worth seeing are La Compañía, La Merced and San Francisco.

The city is also a perfect base for those more adventurous as it offers a range of optional outdoor activities such as white river rafting on Urubamba River, horseback riding around nearby archaeological sites (Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Tambo Machay and Puca Pucara) or mountain biking down to Maras, Moray and Salineras and perhaps visiting some Incan sites on the way.

A real treat on your Peru honeymoon is a Tour of the Sacred Valley.  We travel to a lesser altitude here.
Due to its climate and fertile soil, the Sacred Valley was and is a major agricultural producer for Cusco and surrounding areas. Pick up at your hotel with a private car and driver for your day of discovery in the Sacred Valley.  There is a guided tour of Pisaq, the Inca city and then a visit to the famous, traditional, handicraft markets in Pisaq.

After that we head to Urubamba for lunch in one of the lovely restaurants. Then we continue to the huge fortress ruins of Ollantaytambo. This major ruin is known for the best surviving example of Inca structural planning and engineering. It is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Incan fortress and being one of a couple of places where the Spanish lost a major battle during their conquest. In the afternoon we start retuning to Urubamba, making one last stop on the way for a guided tour of Chinchero. This was an astronomical and Moon worship center among other uses. Chinchero is also has a active textile and weaving village for most women living there. It is still very much into hand made production. Beautiful one of a kind fabrics, clothes, wall hangings or table cloths could be a special gift for your husband or wife on your Peru honeymoon. Spend a night in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Pick up from hotel in private car and taken to Ollantaytambo Train Station (20 minutes from Urubamba). Board the Vistadome Train for your one and half hour trip to Agua Calientes (Machu Picchu pueblo).  Pick up from train station by a hotel representative.  This begins another major highlight in your Peru honeymoon.

Transfer to the Sanctuary Lodge Hotel (the only hotel aside the ruins) or the beautiful boutique Inti Inn. The rest of your day is free to relax or wander the village, take a hot spring dip, walk to the waterfall or eat some great local cuisine.

The archeological center of Machu Picchu are the most important attraction of Peru. The lost city of the Incas is located at 120 kilometers of Cusco, in the Urubamba Valley. Since its discovery back in 1911, by the American researcher Hiram Bingham, there have been many hypotheses regarding the construction of the city. However, it is known that the Incas built the city in this rough area of the jungle to avoid access and possible attacks from their enemies. Machu Picchu was the most important Incan center for worship and astronomic observation.

Machu Picchu has two big important areas: to the south, the agriculture area is made up of terraces, aqueducts, etc. To the north, the urban area is the city with its temples, observatories, workshops, and sacred burial plots. There are three ways to reach Machu Picchu: by helicopter (30 minute flight), by train (4 hours to Aguas Calientes), and through the trekking route known as the "Inca Trail" (a three day journey). The Inca trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most spectacular routes in the world, part of the 23,000 kilometers of road that the Incas built all around South America. 

The climb to the Huayna Picchu is another highlight in this magical place.one The name Huayna Picchu means "young mountain", compared to Machu Picchu "the old mountain". From the top of the young mountain you have an extraordinary view of the Machu Picchu complex and of the path that leads to the terraces on the edge of the abyss as well as of some small ruins of temples. Beyond the myths, Machu Picchu is the testimony of the knowledge and the greatest artistic expression of the Incas. This city catches the attention of all its visitors who admire its magnificent beauty.

Location of Machu Picchu: 112 km northwest of Cusco.

Up early to catch the sunrise and early morning splendor at Machu Picchu. Photo opportunities abound. Very few newly married couples have such a romantic and mysterious backdrop for their Peru honeymoon. You will begin with a personal guided tour of Machu Picchu with an experienced, knowledgeable professional guide. Time to spend afterwards exploring or sitting in this magnificent and magical place. You also have the opportunity to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, these peaks are within the Machu Picchu citadel. It is a steep climb of about an hour and allows a different perspective and even more stunning views with more photographic opportunities and a deep sense of achievement. Limited numbers of climbers per day so check with your tour operator or guide in advance for a ticket. 

Transfer to Agua Calientes train station and board the Vistadome at 3 pm for your trip back to Cusco.  Transfer to your hotel with plenty of time to spend your last night in the ancient Incan capital of the world.

Today is a relaxing day so you can explore the fascinating capital of the Incas, visit its markets, buy some souvenirs, do some optional activities.

You can explore some of many very good museums such as the Inca Museum, the Qoricancha Museum, the Archaeological Museum (which also houses a small art exhibition), the Regional Historic Museum and the Religious Art Museum.

Suggest Items

Most of travelers use a suitcase. However, a big backpack would be more suitable. In any case, please do not forget a small rucksack that you will need for daily travels (to carry your bottled water, camera, snacks, etc.). It is better to avoid a wheeled luggage and use luggage with shoulder straps.

What kind of clothing to pack

If you plan to visit Peruvian mountains (Andean mountain range or Altiplano), then we recommend you to take some trousers suitable for hiking, shorts, T-shirts and trekking shoes for the days; and sweaters, fleeces, hats, scarves and warm jackets for the nights. You also should take a sun protection cream, sun glasses and in some cases, mosquito repellent (depending on a route chosen). It is very convenient to have a light rain-gear available in a daypack (e.g. a waterproof poncho or jacket and/or waterproof trousers) as weather changes quickly and rains can suddenly occur.
