Shortly after enabling reservations on the official Machu Picchu ticket sales website (www.machupicchu.gob.pe) today at 12:00 p.m., the platform experienced an outage lasting over three hours, causing frustration among operators and users attempting to purchase tickets.
At the time of this report, the platform remains either non-operational or intermittent, posing challenges for those wanting to make reservations to visit the Inca citadel.
As previously communicated, the Ministry of Culture had mandated the use of this website for ticket sales until January 19 for the entire year. Subsequently, on January 20, the new platform tubeleto.cultura.pe, managed by Joinnus, was scheduled to be activated.
Tour operators in Cusco expressed skepticism regarding the unexpected outage of the current reservation system, an issue not previously encountered.
Commonly, a website may go down due to server saturation, unable to handle a surge in visits within a short timeframe.
For Cusco operators, a recurrence of this event could serve as grounds for justifying the launch of the new Joinnus platform.
This situation unfolds amid controversies surrounding the direct hiring of the company without a bidding process, currently under investigation by the Comptroller's Office.
Numerous comments on this issue can be found on the Facebook page of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco. A user, Joel Huamán, commented, 'What a disaster, you cannot enter the normal purchasing system or the extranet. I hope we are not surprised that when the system returns, there are no spaces. It already happened at some point; the prosecutor's office should intervene.'
Another user, Thali Guevara, stated, 'The system is not the problem; it has always worked well. The problem is the corruption that the Minister of Culture engages in for her pocket.'
UPDATE:
In a last-minute statement, the Ministry of Culture acknowledged the crash on the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco's platform. The IT team is addressing the issue, with a commitment to resolve the technical problems by 5:00 p.m. today.
'Precisely, with the aim of improving the user experience and guaranteeing an efficient service, the Ministry of Culture will include Machu Picchu in: tubeleto.cultura.pe, starting this January 20,' the ministry announced."
