Following the suspension of the strike in Machu Picchu, Ferrocarril Trasandino S.A. has resumed its railway services on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu-Hidroeléctrica section as of this afternoon.
In a statement released today, Wednesday, January 31, Ferrocarril Trasandino S.A. confirmed the authorization for railway operations after ensuring safety conditions and verifying the state of the railway line. The strike suspension was officially declared by Machu Picchu protesters on the morning of January 31, marking the end of the indefinite strike that began on January 25.
"We appreciate the understanding of the railway operators and the community regarding the temporary suspension of railway operations, a measure adopted to ensure the safety of people," the statement noted.
Regional Governor Werner Salcedo Álvarez and District Mayor Elvis La Torre announced the decision to resume tourist activities in the region after six days of strike action.
The strike concluded following the early termination of the contract with Joinnus for the sale of tickets to the Inca Citadel. Salcedo Álvarez stated, 'Today we announce that the strike in Machu Picchu ends, marking the beginning of true development not only in the district of Machu Picchu but also in the province of Urubamba and the Cusco region.
