Huaca Pucllana, a jewel within your reach | Hello, if you are wondering what this place was?, How to get to Huaca Puccllana?, How much does it cost?, we will tell you everything below and don't worry because you don't have to pay a lot of money.

What was Huaca Puccllana in pre-Columbian times?

It was an Administrative and Ceremonial Center of the Lima Culture, during the years ranging from 200 to 700 AD, built mainly using Adobe, after the Lima culture, the Wari culture arrived until approximately the year 1100.

After the Waris the Ychsma took possession of the place until the year 1470 when and finally when the Inca culture expanded under the command of Pachaquteq the 9th emperor, this valley and religious, political and ceremonial site was going to be taken over by the Incas from the year 1740 approx.

The main economic activity of the inhabitants who lived around Pucllana and almost the entire Peruvian coast was agriculture. The main crops were corn, beans and pallar and fruits such as custard apple, lucuma, guava and pacae were also grown. In addition, it is known about the raising of domestic animals such as guinea pigs, ducks, alpacas and llamas and artisanal fishing was also carried out.

What can you see at Huaca Puccllana?

Huaca Pucllana today still maintains archaeological remains from different periods of its evolution since the year 200 AD.

The highlight of the place is a pyramid built on a plain made entirely using adobe. The building does not have interior rooms, and is therefore entirely solid.

You will also see ceremonial courtyards, areas where many excavations were carried out and a modern model so you can better understand the place.

How much does it cost?

The average entrance fee is 6 USD, we mention the price in American Dollars so that all readers can understand but we recommend you bring local currency (The Peruvian Sol).

Pucllana Site Museum

The Pucllana Site Museum, inaugurated in 1984, houses a collection of cultural assets resulting from archaeological excavations carried out since 1981 by the Huaca Pucllana Research, Conservation and Enhancement Project, directed by Dr. Isabel Flores Espinoza until the year 2020. Since 2005, the administration of the financial resources self-generated by the institution has been delegated by the Ministry of Culture, through an inter-institutional agreement, to the Municipality of Miraflores. It has an infrastructure that includes an exhibition room, a visiting circuit in the archaeological zone, a park of native flora and fauna, an area of ??complementary services, warehouses, cabinets and an administrative area. It fulfills three main functions that have driven its activities since its creation: scientific research, as a fundamental commitment that includes archaeological excavation and analysis of materials; the architectural conservation and enhancement of the archaeological site; and education as a link with the local, national and international community.

How can I get to this place?

The exact address is Calle General Borgoño block 8, Miraflores district – Lima

If you are in the Miraflores district, you can walk, otherwise we recommend taking a taxi. The average price to pay the taxi driver is 20 soles (from Barranco, Lima center or San Isidro)

It depends a lot on your expectations, you can do it on your own, just confirm that the place is 100% open (call this number: 01-6177148), we know it will be open but sometimes there are strikes in Lima and that can affect the normal operation of this Museum.

Once you confirm the operation of the place, go to the archaeological site, pay your entrance fee.
